Short answer: The Jungfrau region — Grindelwald, Wengen and Mürren — has about 210 km of runs under the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It's the best Swiss region for families, intermediates and mixed groups with non-skiers, with the Eiger Express gondola, the Lauberhorn World Cup race in Wengen and long sled runs. It's about 2.5 hours from Zurich by train.

Ski under the north face of the Eiger, ride a cogwheel train between runs, then sled down to the village under the stars. The Jungfrau region is the most "Swiss postcard" ski experience — and the most forgiving for mixed abilities.

FAQ

Grindelwald or Wengen for skiing?

Grindelwald has more hotels, the Eiger Express gondola and the First area; Wengen is car-free, quieter and charming, with direct access to the Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg slopes. Both share the same lift pass.

Is the Jungfrau region good for beginners?

Yes — it's one of the best in Switzerland, with gentle slopes at Männlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and Grindelwald First and many English-speaking instructors.

What is the Lauberhorn race?

A classic men's World Cup downhill held in Wengen every January, known as the longest downhill on the circuit. Spectators can watch for free from the course.
