What not to miss
The lakeside market
The chalets run along the promenade near the Freddie Mercury statue, a must-have photo for Queen fans. Come before dark to see the lake and the mountains. Stay for the lights: the promenade glows, the Alps go pink, and the vin chaud tastes better.
The flying Santa
In the evenings, Santa's sleigh crosses the sky above the market and the lake. Times vary, so check the official Montreux Noël program and find a spot on the promenade a few minutes early.
Santa's House on the Rochers-de-Naye
A cogwheel train climbs from Montreux station to the Rochers-de-Naye, about 50 minutes up into the snow, where Santa has his house. It's a real highlight for children, and tickets sell out, so book as soon as you know your dates. Even without kids, the ride and the view over Lake Geneva are worth it.

- Château de Chillon: the medieval castle on the water is a lovely walk along the lake from Montreux, or a short bus ride.
